What you’ll ACTUALLY use for baby’s first year

design (6)I still remember filling out my registry last year and being overwhelmed by the list of things I’d “need”. Now my little one is almost a year old, I figured it would be a good time to come up with my OWN list of what I actually used and found extremely beneficial! I’m not going to include diapers, wipes, bottles, etc. because all of that should be understood already.

41iDBrDxRnL._SY355_If you get blessed (or should I say cursed?) with a terrible sleeper like I did, the Fisher Price Rock & Play will be your best friend. Seriously, Lucy slept in this thing for the first 5 months. We didn’t realize til about 5 weeks into our sleep deprivation that we had this unopened in our house and maybe it was time to try it out.

The next two most important things for us were swaddle blankets, and then once Lucy could roll, the Zipadeezip.75930_IMG_N-SPBLANKET_LIFE3_466X302Zipadee_Zip_Whale_PrintLucy is almost 11 months old and she STILL sleeps in her Zippy. I was a little iffy over the price when I bought it but I definitely have got my money’s worth out of this product.

Those were the products that saved our lives and what I would tell EVERYONE to get. The only other thing I’m going to recommend is the Fisher Price Step and Play Piano because once your baby is to the point where they can walk holding onto things and even walk on their own, you can take the middle seat out. Around 8 months Lucy wanted NOTHING to do with sitting in anything anymore, so I thought it was time to pack up this exersaucer. How to Pack for a Beach Trip with a Baby

I’ll be off to South Carolina in just 2 days. This will be Lucy’s first beach trip! If you’re anything like me, you probably googled the crap out of “what to bring for baby’s first beach trip” and got frustrated with the results. I couldn’t find one complete list of EVERYTHING I’d need! So I decided to come up with my own:

1. Sunblock. Probably one of the most important things on this list, if not THE most important.

2. Hats, and lots of them. Now, your little babe may be like mine and try to rip off their hats, but find ones with a strap and that will hopefully help to keep them on longer!

3. While this probably isn’t a necessity, I bought this when we went camping and plan on using it at the beach- Kikofly Baby Beach Tent – I have no idea if this will get used or not but I’d rather be safe than sorry!

4. Another form of shade, an umbrella, a canopy, a pack & play with half of it covered, whatever works for you. We’ll be renting an umbrella.

5. Baby water shoes! Lucy is at the age where all she wants to do is walk – in fact, she took her first steps this past weekend! – So, I definitely need to protect her feet from the hot sand.

6. Lots of water, premade formula if you’re not nursing, some snack for baby, and yourself of course!

7. Swim diapers (only for the water), regular diapers (cloth or sposies) for while on the beach, and extra clothes/bathing suits for the little one!

8. Baby powder to get the sand off of yourselves.

9. Beach toys/Bath Tub Toys to play with.

10. A beach blanket and an extra blanket for the baby!

9 month update

Since the last time I gave an update on Lucy, she is standing up by herself for a few seconds before falling down, walking while holding onto things, has said momma, baba, has started making hard G sounds, W sounds, and is trying to say dada!

She’s still co-sleeping, and cloth diapered at home. Her favorite foods are scrambled eggs, greek yogurt, avocado still, oatmeal, banana, and chicken.

5 exercises that will give you sexy, toned arms for summer!

Who doesn’t want nice, toned arms to go along with that cute sundress? Here are 5 of my FAVORITE exercises to throw into your workout routine that will help get rid of that arm flab!

5. Kettlebell Swings – while this does work your lower body, I’ve found that it does wonders for your shoulders. Throw this in at the end of your workout, perhaps in a HIIT style circuit and you’ll really feel the burn!

4. Lateral Raises (Front, Side) – These will also help give your shoulders a nice rounded look. 3 sets of 10 should work well.

3. Skullcrushers – I call this exercise the tricep killa’ because well…you tell me how your triceps feel the next day 😉 Start with 3 sets of 10, after you finish your third set, grab a lower weight and do as many as possible. (i.e drop set)

2. Dips – Another fantastic tricep exercise. It wasn’t until I added in dips and skullcrushers that my triceps made any sort of appearance! If you can’t do regular dips, grab a bench and use that to complete this movement.

1. Hammer Curls – Probably my favorite bicep exercise. What’s the use of having nice arms without have some bicep definition to go along with it?


Guilt Free Chicken Pasta

I thought I’d share with you guys what I cooked up for dinner tonight!

224 grams dry penne pasta
12 oz chicken
200 grams bell peppers
8 0z fat free cream cheese
2.5 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp minced garlic
1.5 cans of diced tomatoes

Combine diced tomatoes, cream cheese, bell peppers and minced garlic in a skillet and simmer. Start the noodles at the same time. Cut up the chicken breast and start cooking that in a separate skillet. Once the noodles are boiling scoop about 1/2 cup of water and add to the sauce. Once the chicken looks cooked on the outside add it to the skillet with the sauce. Add your 2.5 tablespoons of lemon juice and simmer until it looks blended thoroughly.

Caloric breakdown:
524 calories per serving | 2 servings
2.5 grams fat
57.5 grams carbohydrates
67.5 grams protein
